"We’re taking George Street to a different level,” says Mark Stollar, former manager of The Dorset and now owner of Oblong.
Offering great value modern cuisine in rustic portions, the restaurant’s shabby-chic interior has a Mediterranean feel, with marble tables and bar, z-shaped stools, wooden church chairs and chandeliers.
The brunch menu includes the full English (£6.95) and fruit pancake (£5.95), while the day menu offers light meals and mains, including seasonal fishcakes and vegetable gratin (both £7.45). The dinner menu features Chinese-style duck (£5) for starters, and pot-roasted free-range chicken, and scallops in champagne sauce (both £13) as mains.
Sunday roasts cost £9, and there are gorgeous desserts for £5 each, including chocolate and havana club rum fondant.

"Thank goodness for Oblong! At last, a modern restaurant in Hove with a bit
of character! It's swanky but chilled, delicious yet cheap, and the staff
are so friendy, it's like I've been going there for years. I went there for
a birthday celebration a month ago and have been back twice since, with my
husband and parents who loved it too! If Carlsberg made restaurants......"
