SEVENDIALS RESTAURANT

Awarded AA rosettes and given rave reviews, the Sevendials’ seasonally-based a la carte menu changes every six to eight weeks, and uses local, organic and non-GM produce where possible.

Starters might include half-a-dozen Irish rock oysters with shallot vinegar (£9), or grilled quail with a spiced yoghurt marinade (£8).

Among the mains you could find either scallops, mussel, sea bass or organic salmon fricassee with a saffron broth and wilted soft greens (£17); roast young venison loin on sauteed spatzelle with spinach puree and straw potatoes (£16); or poached free-range chicken breast on crushed Jerusalem artichokes with shitake mushrooms and peas (£14). Side orders range from Dauphnoise potatoes (£3.50) and “proper” chips (£3), to French beans (£3) and purple sprouting broccoli with lemon and toasted seeds (£3.50).

The selection of mouth-watering desserts includes magic ice cream sundae (£5.50) and dark valhrona chocolate cream with chantilly and cherries (£7).

A set lunch is available from Monday to Saturday (12pm until 3pm), offering one course for £10, two for £12.50 and three courses for £15. Choose from starters including sauteed chicken livers on green bean salad, and smoked bacon and red onion rosti. Follow this with a main such as crispy duck confit or grilled mackerel fillets. And for those with a sweet tooth, how about raspberry crème brulee or apple and rhubarb crumble?

Sevendials is also a great place for parties, with build-your-own-style two and three-course menus available for large groups. The restaurant is even licensed for civil ceremonies.

Sunday lunch is served from 12.30pm until 4pm, at £15 and £20 for two and three courses, respectively.

There is a selection of house wines available, alongside cocktails at £6 a glass. Try the scrummy-sounding Cuba Libre (a Cuban-style tipple made with rum, coke and a hint of lime). Feeling a little more celebratory? Then hit the restaurant’s champagne cocktail menu, including the Kir Royale (champagne topped with cassis) at a £7 per glass. From April until October, the Sevendials summer terrace is open, where you can relax and sunbathe, choosing from a selection of snacks and afternoon bites. These might include chips with garlic mayonnaise, and an antipasti plate, served individually or to share.

Depending on the weather, the restaurant occasionally stages outdoor live jazz performances and barbecues on Sundays during July and August. It also regularly holds gourmet tasting nights where a selection of wines are matched with various courses from their menu.
