Named after a happening town in Algiers rather than the eye make-up, Mascara specializes in North African cuisine and makes you feel as though you’ve just stepped off the plane in Morocco.
The atmosphere and food are authentic and a belly dancer appears on Friday and Saturday evenings.
From the main menu you can order two courses for £12 (rising to £18 at the weekends) and three courses for £15 (£22 at the weekends). Among the starters are pigeon pastilla and tagine of king prawns. Mains include a range of couscous dishes, such as Mascara couscous (with lamb merguez and chicken) and curry stiffed chicken couscous, plus fish and tagine dishes, including tagine lahlou (braised lamb shank).
