GOURMET BURGER KITCHEN

IS THERE such thing as a cutting-edge burger? The Gourmet Burger Kitchen seems to think so.

Situated on the site of the former Curve Bar, next to Komedia, the Brighton branch of this London chain aims to provide an“indulgent and nutritious eating experience” and its burgers are renowned in the capital, gaining a Top Burger accolade from Harden’s London Restaurant Guide.

Three New Zealanders who craved the way food tasted back home, where burgers are recognised as a well-balanced convenience food, developed the idea.

New Zealand and London-based chef Peter Gordon helped devise the menu. He says: “I love the concept of taking something simple and expanding its potential to give it a distinct, cutting edge flavour.”

Using only fresh ingredients to make its fare, the 23 burgers on the menu include chicken, Camembert and cranberry; beef, avocado and bacon; chorizo and sweet potato; lamb and minted relish; and venison.

The burgers are huge, towering things, made with Aberdeen Angus beef and freshly-baked buns, making them great value for money. Vegetarian options include aubergine and goat’s cheese, and mushroom, and smaller junior chicken and beef burgers are also on the menu for children and adults who are not so peckish. There’s a delicious selection of drinks too, including juices, smoothies and milkshakes.

The interior has a mood-lit wall which changes colour and there’s the option of outside dining during the summer months, when the GBK will be introducing special offers.
