There are two sides to Shoreham’s Angel Lounge Bar. By day, the double doors open out on to the street to reveal a fresh and restful cafe, where locals can sit outside and relax with a slice of cake, a chilled glass of wine or a cup of coffee.
At night, the lights are dimmed, the bar glows red and the sound of deep house and soul music draws a young and funky crowd to the venue.
If you are looking for a mellow cocktail or three, or a bite to eat in sophisticated, candlelit surroundings, then the Angel Lounge Bar is for you. High ceilings lend a feeling of space and chandeliers add a touch of city glamour to the bar. With a nod to angelic purity, the interior is painted white and the staff are dressed in white, complete with printed wings on the back of their T-shirts. The whole venue seems to have been conceived with the intention of reinvigorating worldweary souls.
Aimed at the over-25s, with its very laidback and chilled-out vibe, the venue attracts a mixture of ages and a clientele of nice, friendly people. Resident DJs do their thing at the weekends, including Wild Fruit’s Peter Hayward who picks up the pace on Fridays, if you fancy a shimmy.
The wide-ranging grazing menu of hot and cold dishes is freshly prepared each day. Food includes toasted quesadillas (filled flour tortillas), which come with a variety of fillings such as tiger prawns, jalapeno peppers and melted cheese or Cajun chicken, rainbow peppers and cheese. There are also jacket potatoes, with fillings such as chilli and sour cream, or bacon, brie and cranberry, and sandwiches, which can be served cold or toasted. And there’s always something new available as the specials menu changes daily.
There’s also an extensive list of wines, cocktails, coffees, European draught and bottled beers to choose from.
■ Angel Bar Lounge is open Monday to Saturday from 10.30am until 11pm. And on Sunday the venue offers its brunch menu from 10am to 5pm.
