MAI Ped, Ped Ped is made up of two, somewhat contradictory, Thai words: Mai ped, meaning not hot, and ped ped, meaning very hot indeed.
Accordingly, the dishes range in strength from the subtly flavoured to some hot dishes, which have some serious bite.
Starters include the jungle salad, a nottoo-spicy prawn platter with herbs and mint, which is ideal for sharing (£5.30).
The range of available main dishes on the menu includes sea bream with green curry; stir-fried chicken or squid in chilli and basil; and healthy duck, roasted and cooked with Thai herbs and red curry paste.
Also look out for the thick chicken curry, which comes served inside golden new potato “cups”, accompanied by cucumber, coriander and Thai shallot mixed in rice vinegar.
The restaurant runs special two-course lunch deals for £5.
The service is very friendly and attentive, and the cramped seating conditions make for a lively social atmosphere.
